The Making of Our Farm Stand “Sunny”

The Making of Our Farm Stand “Sunny”

When we started Ivy Road Farm, we dreamed of a space where people could experience our flowers in a simple, beautiful, and welcoming way. Nothing fancy just something honest, charming, and handmade. That dream became Sunny, our little honor-system flower stand tucked just off FM 1750.

And like most special things around here, Sunny was a true family effort.

The vision started with a simple idea, but it was my dad who really brought it to life. He took our loosely sketched dream and made it real building the structure with care and craftsmanship, one board at a time. Together as a family, we sanded, painted, roofed, and styled. It was a labor of love, and we all had our hands in it.

Every part of Sunny holds a bit of our hearts.

For me, the mural on the back wall was especially meaningful. I wanted it to reflect the joy and warmth this little space would offer. So I picked up a brush and painted it myself soft blooms, winding vines, and happy color that felt like us. It was the final touch that made Sunny feel not just built, but loved into existence.

When we stocked her for the first time, there was no grand opening. Just a little sign, a handful of mason jars filled with fresh-picked flowers, a payment box, and a whole lot of hope. Slowly, people started stopping by to grab flowers, leave kind notes, and take in the beauty of a small moment in their day.

Now, Sunny is part of our weekly rhythm. She’s open Thursday through Sunday (or until sold out), filled with whatever’s blooming in the fields or drying in the barn. We’ve loved watching her become a ritual for folks a quiet stop on their way home, a happy surprise for a friend, or a new tradition with kids and grandbabies in tow.

She may just be a little stand in the driveway, but to us, she’s full of meaning. A reminder that simple things built with heart and a whole lot of elbow grease can bring people together in the most beautiful ways.

If you find yourself nearby, we hope you’ll stop, pick up a bouquet, and feel the love that built this place. Sunny will be here, waiting with flowers and sunshine.

With blooms and gratitude,
—Sara & the Ivy Road Farm family
